5 Tips for Managing Eye Strain

If you work for a living, drive regularly or heavily rely on your eyes on a daily basis, it’s likely that you experience eye strain. What is eye strain? Eye strain is the discomfort your eyes experience when you are relying on your eyes, and they must strain to provide visuals. Eye strain can be brought on by poor vision, improper lighting, long exposure to screens such as computers and televisions and more. If you experience strain on your eyes, you may also experience headaches associated with the strain from your vision. How can you manage eye strain and keep your eyes healthy and refreshed?

  • San Diego LASIK

One of the many reasons we strain our eyes is due to poor vision. If you don’t have your contact lenses in or glasses on, you will inevitably strain your eyes to read or see an image. However, with LASIK San Diego, you will experience permanently improved vision that will not require you to strain your eyes. Healthy eyes are happy eyes!

  • Giving Your Eyes A Break

Giving your eyes a proper break is essential when managing eye strain. By giving your eyes a break, you reduce the strain imposed on your eyes from staring for an extended period of time. What does a break look like for your eyes? If you are staring at a computer screen or book, look away and blink every 15-20 minutes. Developing this habit will help ultimately relieve your eyes from the inevitable strain they will incur.

  • Well Lit Reading Area

Who knew that our grandmothers were right when they told us to keep the light on when we read? Our eyes are sensitive, and when they don’t receive enough light, they strain to make our vision as clear as possible. It is always important to supply your eyes with the proper amount of light in order to ensure your eyes are not straining themselves to see. If you’re reading or working on your computer, provide enough light for your eyes!

  • Keep a Healthy Distance

Reading too closely can strain your eyes. The same effect can happen when you try to read at a distance. When you are reading or working on the computer, do not sit too close to the screen, or too far away. Keep a comfortable distance to ensure your eyes are not over or underexposed to the screen you are reading.

  • Lubricate Your Eyes

Lubricating your eyes can be done by blinking and refreshing your eyes. However, you should also use eye drops to lubricate your eyes as well. The proper lubrication for your eyes enables them to work harder and feel refreshed. When you experience eye strain you will often have dry eyes. Lubricate your eyes whether it be blinking or applying eye drops.

Is It Safe to Play Sports After LASIK?

LASIK surgery has come a long way since its inception. The procedure is typically less than an hour long and you are able to go to work the very next day! The recovery time is shorter and the procedure is a quick, less invasive process. At the beginning of LASIK, a blade was used and the procedure took a while to complete. Recovery from the procedure took several days and prohibited certain activities, including physical ones such as sports.

Imagine paying a visit to the best LASIK surgeons in San Diego and not only seeing things clearly, but proceed as normal after the procedure. At La Jolla LASIK in San Diego, we suggest that the day of surgery should be for rest. The days after are as needed, however, you should not experience pain or discomfort. Over the next six months, your eyesight will continue to improve and your need for contact lenses or glasses will be eliminated.

As with any surgery, there are precautions. Sports can be a fun activity enjoyed by anybody! However, we recommend being careful with your eyes while playing sports. If you’re participating in contact sports, take the proper precautions to ensure your eyes are protected in the months after surgery. Physical activity and regular sports are perfectly fine and encouraged! We want LASIK to improve your life, not hinder it! If you enjoyed sports and physical activity and you feel comfortable doing so, please do!
If you have specific questions regarding sports and physical activity after receiving LASIK in San Diego, schedule a free consultation. Our LASIK professionals would be happy to talk about what to expect during the procedure and the months after. At La Jolla LASIK, our patient’s health and comfort are our number one priority. We are looking forward to meeting with you and talking about the benefits of LASIK eye surgery.

Is LASIK Painful?

Many prospective patients are worried about the pain associated with any procedure or surgery. LASIK eye surgery can seem scary since the procedure takes place in your eyes. Unlike many other LASIK institutes, we do not use a blade for our surgeries. We believe in using the latest, safest technology to ensure patient comfort.

To answer the question “Is LASIK painful?”, we will need to elaborate on the procedure itself. LASIK eye surgery in San Diego is not described as painful. However, the procedure is known to be uncomfortable, as your eyes are open for an extended period of time.

When people think of LASIK eye surgery, they often think of a blade cutting their eye open. While this is a form of LASIK eye surgery, this is not one we practice at La Jolla LASIK. We believe in precision, accuracy and comfort for our patients. Our patients only feel slight discomfort during our 20 minute LASIK procedures. Laser technology makes the procedure less scary or painful.

Experience the benefits of LASIK eye surgery without the pain. Our procedures include minimal pain and maximum results. Don’t let the fear of a painful procedure turn you away from permanently clearer vision.

How Does San Diego LASIK Eye Surgery Actually Work?

We’ve all heard about LASIK surgery. We’ve heard of the benefits, success stories, etc. A permanent solution for correcting your vision? It sounds almost too good to be true. The big question, how does LASIK actually work?

LASIK eye surgery in San Diego is a procedure people with poor or worsening eyesight have done to permanently correct their issues. Over the years, San Diego LASIK has become increasingly more popular. Once people had the surgery done and raved about their new vision, everybody became curious about the procedure.

At La Jolla LASIK Institute, we have the top surgeons in the San Diego area. Our renowned surgeons are well-versed and educated in the field of LASIK eye surgery. We only use the newest and latest technology to ensure precision, accuracy and comfort for the procedure. Unlike many LASIK institutes, we only use laser technology for our surgeries. We know how scary it can be to have a blade near your eye, let alone in it.

First, schedule a FREE consultation with us at La Jolla LASIK Institute. During your consultation, we will answer all of your questions and concerns regarding the LASIK procedure. We will also look at your medical history and address any risks to determine if you qualify for the surgery.

How does it work?

Our top surgeons (ophthalmologists) will numb your eyes with numbing drops, so you don’t feel any discomfort. Next, the ophthalmologist will create a flap, using laser technology. When the flap is lifted, your surgeon is able to correct your vision. (Your vision may become blurry and dull at this point in the surgery, which is normal) After the flap is lifted, the surgeon will reshape the stroma layer of your cornea. During this process, the laser technology will reshape your cornea based on your unique prescription. The surgeon will replace the flap and proceed to administer more drops for comfort.

The procedure on average takes roughly 30 minutes to complete, and the healing begins as soon as you leave. You will want to have a reliable form of transportation to leave the office when your surgery has concluded. We recommend taking the rest of the day off work and resting. Your eyes will feel irritated the day of the procedure.
